Baptism

"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1213)

The Catholic church requires that at least one of the parents and one of the godparents be active, practicing Catholics. For the grace of Baptism to unfold, the parents’ help is important. So too is the role of the godparent, who must be firm believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized on the road of Christian life. (CCC1255)

In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.

It is with great joy that our parish family welcomes the newly baptized into our parish family.  Arrangements and approval must be made in advance. First time parents wishing to have their child baptized are required to attend one Baptism preparation session.  This session will last between 30-45 minutes and will cover important topics such as what Baptism is, the spiritual benefits of Baptism, and the important role God has called you to, as parents, in raising your child in the Catholic faith. You will be asked to have two godparents to stand up for your precious child. It is required that one of the godparents be an active, practicing Catholic. If you have participated in a Baptism preparation session for other children you have and it has been more than two years since you attended one of our sessions, we ask you to register.
